How can I use the FolderViewer to maintain a blog?
The first thing you should do is add a folder using the File Manager. Give the folder whatever name you want and remember its location, you will need it soon. Once the folder has been added go ahead and add a FolderViewer. When you first add a FolderViewer you will be presented with a setup wizard. This wizard had multiple pages.
Selecting the folder you added earlier (page 1)
This page will ask you to select a folder. Find the folder you created earlier and select it. Go to the next page.
This page asks you how you want the items in the folder to be listed. Choose the Blog option.
This will ask you what files in this folder do you want to be shown. For a blog you probably want the last few entries to be visible. So choose the most recent files option and hit next.
Here you can choose to either display the last few entries posted or you can do it by the date. Whichever you choose hit Next.
This page lists all the entries currently in the folder. If you want to hide specific entries you can do it from here. For now just move on.
Selecting the display style (page 5)
Thi s page sets the display style of an individual entry if it is clicked on. In this case we will have it display the title, author, the file itself, and a return link. You can also set the display location. For a blog we just want it to display the entry in the same block.
Here you can set the title and description for the blog.
This page gives you various RSS and publishing options.
This final page gives you a preview of how your blog will look. In our case its blank since we have no entries yet. Hit the finish button and the blog is added.
Adding your first blog entry
Your final step is to add a entry to the blog. To do this simply move your mouse to the folder icon and a menu will popup. One of the options on this menu is to add a "New Document". Click on this a you will see a standard Caravel editor. Just add an author, title, and some content. Give your file a name and hit save. You have added your first blog entry.
